Over the centuries, many have trodden the landscapes of Valdarno di Sopra: soldiers, merchants, pilgrims, clerics, and adventurers. Some of them have immortalised the valley through their writing and paintings, including historians Livy, Pliny the Elder, Columella, and Strabo, holy men like Saint Francis, artists and writers such as Giotto, Brunelleschi, Michelangelo, Dante, Petrarch, Machiavelli, and even Leonardo Da Vinci, who depicted the Balze del Valdarno and Ponte Buriano bridges – a stone throw’s away from Tenuta Sette Ponti – in his Mona Lisa. Also bearing witness to the region’s storied past, the remnants of the Cassia Vetus, an ancient Etruscan and Roman path taken by pilgrims and merchants travelling from Florence to Arezzo, which passes right next to the estate.
